#1. Make sure your lights are UL-listed.

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is a independent, not-for-profit organization that tests products and writes safety standards for a variety of industries. In the lighting industry, manufacturers can have their lights tested by UL to make sure they meet strict safety guidelines. Once a light passes all the required tests, it can be UL-listed.UL-listed lights have been independently tested to meet strict safety standards. This means they’re less likely to overheat, start a fire, or cause an electrical shock. So, if safety is a priority for you, look for UL-listed lights when shopping for new fixtures.

#2. Choose the right color temperature.

Choosing the right LED bulbs for your business isn’t as simple as just choosing the brightest ones available. You also need to consider the right color temperature of the bulbs and what “right” may vary from room to room. The wrong color temperature can cause eye strain, headaches, and even migraines. In general, common areas like breakrooms often use LED bulbs with a warm colored light (2500K or lower) while working rooms are better suited for bright white LEDs (3000K-4500K).

#3. Consider your controls options.

Today, control options do much more than just generically operate your commercial LED fixtures. Choosing the right control option that was designed specifically for use with LEDs can dramatically improve your overall experience your new lighting. For example, control options can improve subpar lighting performance, keep your LEDs running cooler, and prolong bulb lifespan. Control options can even manage automation, which gives you the ability to program your lights and further reduce your energy consumption — and electric bill!
